The university Centre of the Westfjords hosts conferences and lectures of all types and sizes; from large international conferences on culture, nature or science, to small informal gatherings on any number of topics. Conference facilities in Ísafjörður, and across the Westfjords, are exemplary and offer many opportunities for memorable outings and activities.

Society and Nature 2022

The 14th conference on Icelandic Society was hosted by the University Centre of the Westfjords 12 -14 May 2022 under the topic: Society and Nature - Head to head or hand in hand? The conference was held in Icelandic.


CoastGIS 2018

CoastGIS was held in Ísafjördur, Iceland - hosted by the University Centre of the Westfjords. It was the 13th consecutive symposium for an international exchange of knowledge, ideas and experience on how spatial data and information technologies aid marine and coastal zone managers and stakeholders in better understanding and managing coastal space and resources.

The CoastGIS 2018 conference's theme was Climate Change and Spatial Planning, to
address recent challenges in managing our coastlines effectively and sustainably.


Creative Power of the Westfjords 2018

The Creative Power of the Westfjords was a symposium held in 2018. The purpose was to explore the creative power of the Westfjords in Icelandic, historical literature. Also to draw a map of some of the manuscripts and literary works from medieval times to modernity that surface from the Deep of Ísafjörður. The symposium was part of the project Perceiving the Creative Power of the Westfjords, its objective being to gather
material for a book on the history of literature and culture in the Westfjords-region. The symposium was held in Iceland.
